How many of you have endured astonishingly poor crypto podcasts, just to see how many hands go up? One, in particular, stood out to me. During a meeting, two devs were asked to explain what their blockchain was doing, but (wait for it) they were working on the front-end departure. If you’ve been around the crypto community for any length of time, you’ve probably heard it all.
Podcasts have become so popular because they’re easy to produce, need minimum equipment, and are convenient, portable, and easy to absorb because of their on-demand quality.
We’ve put together a list of the finest crypto podcasts based on our combined listening experience. Several of these are widely accepted as industry norms, while others may be a surprise. All of these are worthy of your consideration, therefore we’ve included them in no particular order.
The fact that Epicenter has been a part of the crypto podcasting community since 2013, sets them apart from the majority of the industry’s more recent entrants. It’s clear from the outset of each episode that the purpose of the show is to speak with “crypto founders, builders, and thought leaders,” and to provide their listeners with in-depth discussions about the technical, economic, and societal implications of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies.
The podcast What Bitcoin Did by Peter McCormack is a great place to start if you’re interested in learning more about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, regardless of how late you are in the game.
As a beginner, McCormack’s podcasts are invaluable because he himself was a newbie to Bitcoin, and so there’s a certain evolution to his podcasts, with early ones covering many of the core issues that are at the heart of the coin and technology, while subsequent podcasts become increasingly more sophisticated as McCormack’s knowledge of the subject becomes more advanced. McCormack’s podcasts also have a unique perspective since he offers attention to Bitcoin skeptics, which can be a rarity in the politicized world of cryptocurrency.
Laura Shin’s weekly, Unchained an hour-long podcast is a “no-hype resource for all things crypto.” Topics include how crypto assets and blockchains will change how money is earned, spent, and invested, as well as the recent NFT craze in contemporary art and how a coding school for girls in Afghanistan has promoted crypto payments.
Shin’s podcasts feature interviews with industry experts and executives, not personal musings. Shin is a former Forbes senior editor and one of the first mainstream reporters to cover crypto. She has Stanford and Columbia degrees, making her a trusted crypto-news source.
For those of you who haven’t heard of it, we’ve got a newbie on the list. It may initially appear to be a complicated topic, but Su Zhu, a CEO and founder of Three Arrows Capital; and Hasu, a cryptocurrency researcher and writer, tackle it head-on with a creative method that provides insights and sets them different from the rest of the podcasts out there.
They don’t have a huge back catalog, with only thirty episodes, but what they do have in quality, they more than makeup for it in quantity. The show’s episodes clock in at nearly two hours, making for a truly engrossing listening experience. What if you still haven’t made up your mind? Learn how to use game theory in the cryptocurrency market by checking out their latest episode.
Crypto 101 describes itself as a “community of Crypto Crusaders on a mission to take charge of their future,” offering news and commentary for “the typical consumer’s guide to cryptocurrency.” Aaron Malone, a crypto advisor, and researcher, and Bryce Paul, a business development professional in the crypto field are the hosts of the show. Paul and Malone have over 400 podcasts under their belts, as well as their self-published book Crypto Revolution (2019) in which they unravel hard issues in a jargon-free manner. The length of each weekly podcast varies from about twenty minutes to about an hour and a half.
For newcomers, the focus here is clearly on teaching them about the basics of cryptocurrency trading, with topics like “Complex Financial Contracts Made Easy” and “Advanced Trading Made Easy” among the most prominent.
Now is the time for all you fearless crypto novices and fans to venture out into the world and listen to and learn from some of the most brilliant brains in the crypto sphere. You’ll have access to hours upon hours’ worth of content that will get you thinking whenever you need it, whether you’re riding a bike or taking public transportation to work, jogging, running errands, standing in line at the grocery store, or just tuning out the white noise that’s going on around you.
